Everyman
While I was reading this play, I struggled with
understanding the meaning of many lines and I found myself rereading a lot of
the lines in the play. I also thought that the play seemed to drag on towards
the middle of the play. This took away from my initial understanding and
enjoyment of the play. However, after reading the play, I did really like the
meaning and symbolism found in the play. I also see how this play could make an
impact on the viewers who saw the play. The message about morality was very
clear, and unlike plays with multiple plots and subtle messages, the theme of
the play was spelled out clearly several times. I thought it was refreshing to
read a play that was so straightforward in its intent. Although the play did
make me think about my own relationship with my good deeds and goods, I think
this is an instance where seeing the play acted out might have made the message
more effective. Seeing the different characteristics like beauty and strength
and how an actor would embody them would be very interesting. Overall, I enjoyed
the message of the play.
