Everyman
I found the play Everyman to be very hard to get through. I like that the rhymes made it go fluidly, however I still struggled to understand what was going on. The fluidity also, however, made it kind of boring because the rhythm made me tired. I thought that the play had messages that are as important today as they were back in 15th century when it was first produced. Although it is very religious and therefore may not appeal to everyone, its message about societal absorbance with material wealth are important to everyone. It was interesting to see Everyman's struggle and failure to settle his accounts before going to be judged. In the end it was only Good Deads, and only after he had confessed his sins that stayed with him. It imparts the message that material possessions are meaningless, as are relationships (which I found kind of sad). In all, I found the play to be a little depressing because it basically states that everything except the good deads you do in life are meaningless. It was reassuring that you can confess your sins and still go to heaven, but the abandonment of those who will speak for you in their own self interest made the ending bittersweet.
