I found the relationship between
trust and morality in Tartuffe to be interesting. Orgon and Madame Pernelle’s
perception of Tartuffe as a moral ideal lead them to trust him even more than
their own family members. Also, the play as a whole seems to be a satire of the
Church’s influence over the French government, and its ability to manipulate
the government to its own purpose under the guise of religious authority.
