Greek Drama Video

My first thoughts following this video was the difference between how much theatre meant to the ancient Greeks as compared to how much it means to modern society. We base almost all aspects of our life - democracy, education system, philosophy, etc- on the Greeks, yet we would never consider taking time out of our lives to go watch performances. I will say that I never knew this about the Greek culture, despite taking classics courses and Latin through my years in high school. My final thought from this video was how the amphitheaters of ancient Greece ultimately translated into the design for the Coliseum, a place where theatre was traded for torture. I am now considering basing my research paper on the evolution of theatre from the ancient Greeks to the ancient Romans. I meant to ask this in class, but I am interested to see if theatre and the olympics are connected in any way...
