I
found the video to be cheesy, yet interesting. The fact that the Greek
hillsides could fit twenty thousand people was extremely impressive. I was also
interested in how closely drama and religion were linked in the Greek culture.
Hearing
about the Dionysian festivals was also intriguing. Hearing how they let all of
the prisoners free during the festivities made me wonder what effect letting
all criminals free for Mardi Gras would have on the city (it probably would not
turn out as well).
The
other striking fact was that the Greeks were so enamored with the theater. It
was a centerpiece of their culture. Today, mass media and movies have replaced
the theater as the main form of entertainment. I wonder if there are ways to
reverse this, or at least to make theater more easily accessible to the masses.
