I really like reading plays. However, I don't think that reading a play can really compare to the experience of watching one. Whether on stage or in a film, scripts seem to take a shape for me once actors fill the place of characters. Particularly in the case of The Cherry Orchard, being able to actually watch the play made it 110 times easier to keep track of each character and thus follow the plot. When reading a play, I think that it can be incredibly difficult to keep track of each person, who they are, and what they're doing. Even if I keep a chart, that distracts from the fluidity of reading straight through.
I had definitely imagined different parts of the play to be a little different, and the cherry orchard they portrayed was not exactly a cherry orchard that would be in an encyclopedia. However, overall, I really enjoyed watched The Cherry Orchard, and it definitely allowed me to make more sense of the play.
